EASLEY, S.C – Simpsonville, South Carolina’s Colby Howard, 15, scored a pair of fourth place finishes in Saturday night’s Twin 50-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model races at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, South Carolina.
For Howard, a rookie in the late model stock series after finishing second last year in Southeast Limited Late Model Series points and winning seven races in that division, it’s been a challenging transition but he’s remaining positive while learning.
“I guess two fourths isn’t bad, but it’s also kind of disappointing,” the soft-spoken teenager said. “We qualified second fastest and I thought we had a good shot at at least one win tonight, but the car got really tight in race one and we just fell backward a bit to fourth. Then in the second race, we started fifth and were up to third, passing a lapped car when the guy behind me decided to make it three wide and door-slammed me. We got another fourth out that one.”
“The car was actually a little bit loose in the second race but I believe we would have been better than fourth had we not gotten hit. I want a win bad not just for myself but for our team because everyone has just worked so hard this year and stuck by me, including our partners. I can’t thank them all enough, and thanks to all of our fans, too!”
